Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled, dependable, and self-directed Baker to support production at both our Berkeley and Oakland locations. This is a hands-on, full-time role that works closely with our Lead Baker while also independently completing baking, preparation, inventory, and restocking responsibilities. 


The ideal candidate has strong baking experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to organize their own workload without constant supervision. This position requires regular travel between both locations and the flexibility to adjust to changing production needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Baking Preparation: Prepare and bake Tres Leches cakes, Flan, Chocolate cake, cupcakes, and other specialty desserts.

  • Other Dessert Preparation: Prepare supporting components such as ganaches, frostings, whipped cream, caramels, in house drinks, and Tres Leches milk.

  • Independent Production: Review assigned priorities, organize the workday, manage time effectively, and complete production without requiring continuous supervision.

  • Cross-Location Support: Perform baking, preparation, organization, and restocking duties at both the Berkeley and Oakland locations based on production needs.

  • Inventory & Restocking: Monitor ingredients, and prepared components at both locations. Maintain accurate counts, rotate stock, restock to established levels, coordinate transfers between sites, and coordinate with lead baker to replenish ingredient needs.

  • Quality Control: Follow Casa de Chocolates’ quality standards to ensure consistency in taste, texture, appearance, portioning, and presentation.

  • Daily Prep: Prepare ingredients and leave each kitchen ready for the next shift.  Maintain clean and safe work areas by washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, sanitizing equipment, and properly storing ingredients and supplies.

  • Communication & Teamwork: Communicate clearly with the Lead Baker and COO regarding completed work, inventory needs, production delays, waste, quality concerns, and unfinished priorities. Work collaboratively with Chocolatiers, front-of-house staff, and other kitchen team members.

  • Recipe & Seasonal Support: Assist with approved recipe testing, seasonal production, special orders, and small-batch trials.

  • Food Safety & Compliance: Follow California food-handling, sanitation, allergen, labeling, storage, temperature-control, and workplace-safety requirements.


Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years professional baking experience in a bakery, café, pastry kitchen, restaurant, or similar production environment.

  • Strong knowledge of baking methods, measurements, timing, recipe execution, and pastry components.

  • Self-directed, collaborative, and capable of recognizing priorities, staying organized, and completing work independently.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently maintain high-quality on all products.

  • Effective time-management, communication, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.

  • Dependable, adaptable, and comfortable working at more than one location.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move items up to 50 pounds 

  • Valid California Food Handler Card required.

  • Familiarity with chocolate production and an interest in Latin American flavors are a plus 

Schedule & Location Requirements

  • Full-time position of 32 or more hours per week, based on business and production needs.

  • Weekend and peak-season availability required.

  • Must be able to report to and work at either the Berkeley or Oakland location and travel between locations as scheduled.

  • Required travel between worksites during the workday will be handled according to company policy and applicable law. 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting Pay: $21.00 per hour plus shared tips during the introductory period.

  • Post-Trial Pay: Pay will increase to $22.50 per hour plus shared tips following successful completion of the introductory period.

Blackout Dates

Time off is generally not approved during peak holiday periods: September 1–December 24 and January 14 through Mother’s Day.
